Asia Cup 2023 is just two days away and Sri Lanka have not yet announced their squad for the Asian event as they are dealing with injuries.

All the other teams have already named their squads, with the latest being the Afghanistan cricket team who announced their 17-man squad on Sunday (August 27).

The Lankan Tigers are currently evaluating their best options amid never-ending injuries for the Asia Cup and that could be the reason they have not announced their squad yet.

Some of the key players of the team are injured and as of today, four important players are ruled out for the Asian event.

The Lankan pacer Dilshan Madushanka is the latest player to be ruled out of the Asia Cup as the pacer hurt himself during a practice match on Friday (August 25), while another seamer Lahiru Kumara is likely to be unavailable as well.

Madushanka had torn an oblique muscle and he is now a doubt for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as well, Professor Arjuna de Silva, SLC's chairman of the medical committee told ESPN Cricinfo.

On the other hand, Kumara has a side strain, although his injury isn't as serious as Madushanka's but he is expected to miss the entire Asia Cup.

Dushmantha Chameera and Wanindu Hasaranga had also been ruled of the tournament.

Hasaranga is recovering from a grade two strain in his thigh, which he took in his last Lanka Premier League (LPL) match. It is unlikely for him to represent his side in the group stage matches, however, he can contribute should his side qualify for the Super Four round.

Chameera has a pectoral injury and he remains a doubt for the World Cup as well.

This is a big blow for Sri Lanka as Chameera, Madushanka and Kumara are the main bowlers of their side who wreaked havoc in the World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe.

The selection for the Asia Cup is important because the same squad — with minor changes — is likely to be selected for the Cricket World Cup as well.

Sri Lanka will begin their Asia Cup journey against Bangladesh on August 31 in Kandy and the squad is yet to be announced.
